Erdbeben in Barbados

Immerhin kommt kein Tsunami....
Kannste wieder was auf der grossen Liste abhaken: 1 Erdbeben mitgemacht.....

Da bin ich mal zwei Tage offline und da passiert sowas - schrecklich.

Wie sieht´s denn mit den Telefonverbindungen aus? Wir haben gerade versucht unseren Freund anzurufen, aber wir kommen nicht durch.

Mittlerweile haben wir ihn auch erreicht.
Er sagte, sein Papagei hätte vor dem Erdbeben einen Mords Radau gemacht. Aber von den Erschütterungen hätte er gar nicht so viel mitbekommen... top7

Update on Powerful Earthquake

Castries, St. Lucia - November 30, 2007 -

ST. LUCIANS panicked and run from their homes and work places into the streets, screaming in fear when the 238 square mile (616km) island of St. Lucia was rocked by a powerful earthquake on Thursday afternoon, at exactly 3:00 p.m.

"Ithought it would never stop. It was easily the scariest thing I ever experienced," said a Castries school teacher, as she told of attempting to wait out the earthquake in a phone booth where she had been making a call.

Throughout the island there were reports of people fleeing their homes to gather on streets outside, even as buildings rattled from the fury of the quake. Some said the rumblings lasted well over two minutes.

Businesses were immediately closed and staff sent home for the day.
For many elderly people, it was the biggest tremor they had ever experienced. "In all my years, I have never felt any thing as powerful as this one, and it lasted such a long time," said a Water Works resident, who is still mentally alert nearing her 101st birthday.

In the capital, Castries, there were reports of buildings swaying from side to side but not toppling. Others reported the ground shifting under their feet.

Initial reports were that several buildings throughout the island, especially in the north, were damaged in the quake. In Castries, there were reports of a glass door of a business house being shattered by the rumbling.

But there eas no doubt that Thursday's quake was the strongest experienced in this country for some considerable time, not only for its magnitude but its duration as well.

The island's major financial institution, Bank of St. Lucia (also known as Eastern Caribbean Financial Holdings - ECFH), which is some six stories high, reported of staff panicking, some of whom who suffered with ashma and having to be treated by a doctor who was on hand at the time, and having to be sent home.

The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) said the quake measured 7.3, and said that the last time St. Lucia felt such a tremor of that magnitude was in the mid-1950s, adding that the quake was the biggest to be recorded in the Eastern Caribbean "in historic times"

Hab von dem Beben durch ne gute Bekannte aus Jamaica erfahren, die meinte "Ey auf "deiner" Insel hats ja gehörig gewackelt" und ich war geschockt als ich die 1. bilder von martinique sah .. aber zum glück seit ihr ja alle wohl auf .. hatte schon angst!

Da wir im Urlaub eigentlich werder TV noch Zeitung nutzen und zufällig gerade auch keine weiteren Kontakte hatten, haben wir erst zwei Tage später durch unsere Wirtin vom Erdbeben erfahren. Zu der fraglichen Zeit waren wir mit dem Auto irgendwo an der Ostküste unterwegs oder lagen gerade an einem der dortigen Strände (Crane Beach?).
Aus der Zeitung (die habe ich mir dann an der Surfstation geben lassen) weiß ich, dass auf Barbados wohl an einem Haus eine Hauswand samt Küche rausgefallen ist. Und ernsthaft Verletzte gab es zumindest auf Barbados wohl auch nicht. Laut unser Wirtin soll es aber auf Martinique 2 Tote (ein britischer Tourist und ein Kind) gegeben haben. In der Zeitung, die ich gelesen habe, stand davon aber nichts.

Mist, das war jetzt schon mein zweites Erdbeben von dem ich nix mitbekommen habe! Vor ein paar Jahren habe ich schon mal auf Karpathos (Griechenland) eins der Stärke 5,7 verpennt. Damals gab es aber eine Erklärung dafür: Ouzu und Mythos-Bier. Warum wir diesesmal nichts gemerkt haben kann ich mir nicht erklären. Am Rum und Banks-Bier kann es jedenfalls nicht gelegen haben.

laut einem freund aus barbados gab ein noch ein paar tage später ein kleines nachbeben , das allerdings wirklich kaum noch spürbar war, hat er mir geschrieben , als ich mich wenige tage danach nach dem earthquake erkundigt habe!

bin zwar etwas spät dran top25 aber auch hier in Grenada war das Beben gut zu spüren auch hier ist nichts passiert. War schon ein komisches Gefühl also nun haben wir nen Hurricane (oder auch zwei) und ein Erdbeben erlebt und jetzt reicht es auch erst einmal top14
