Neue Brücke für Bridgetown

The new Chamberlain Bridge in Bridgetown is nearing completion, and yesterday pedestrians and motorists travelling in the City enjoyed the privilege of witnessing one of its trial runs. A Barbados Tourism Investment Inc. release advised the public over the weekend that the temporary pedestrian pathway next to the new lift bridge would be removed this weekend. The bridge will be closed on Saturday from 1 p.m. and opened to pedestrians from next Monday. Here, pedestrians crossing the temporary pathway across the Careenage as the new lift bridge is tested.

BRIDGE READY FOR PEDESTRIANS.
The 24-tonne Chamberlain Lift Bridge in the City is slated to be officially opened today. However, as if to give it his early stamp of approval, this pedestrian (siehe Bild) yesterday climbed the barrier and got a first feel of the"turf" underfoot. While pedestrians will be allowed to use the bridge, motorists will have to wait a little longer until minor work on the site is completed. The new computer-controlled bridge was constructed at a cost of $14 million.
